For this project, I was curious about the exchange between the subject and the photographer. In asking people what the most vulnerable part of them was, I was interested in how the dynamic would change if I gave them control over how they presented themselves to the camera. Even when exposing the parts they arguably wanted to keep hidden, the effect seems to shift the focus from vulnerability to a space of intentionality and negotiation between the subject and photographer as well as subject and viewer. As the body becomes an object itself through the act of looking, I hoped to explore the female gaze through these images, questioning the relationships between power, preservation, and insecurity.
